Jesus Christ is the Bread of life. This fact is undisputable as believers witness his demonstrative power in their daily lives.
However, believers must still understand the need to deeply study their Bible to fully understand what the Bread of life actually mean.
Also, the scenario of Jesus’ declaration of Bread of Life must not be ignored.
“Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35 NIV)
While at the heat of an intensive debate with the Pharisees, Christ maintained his stand with the statement, “I am the Bread of Life (that satisfy every human hunger).”
The Pharisees – (Jesus’ critics) felt insulted about his statement “I am the Bread of Life,” because they believed he was some sort a minor teacher who still needed to be taught.
The Pharisees had formal religion education, but Jesus did not. Also, most of the Pharisees were older in age and presumed to have better life experience than Jesus.
The Pharisees believed Jesus was not properly informed to preach adequate sermon about God’s kingdom. Besides, the dogmatic sect believed Jesus’ teaching cast insulting shadow on their cherished Judaism.
Jesus Christ the Son of God preached uncomfortable sermon to his critics. He chose to do things differently by proclaiming undiluted word of God.
To the Pharisees, Jesus teaching was horrible, confusing, and inappropriate. They would have preferred he followed their pattern and preach strict and rigid rule of Judaism.
Unfortunately, Christ rebelled against their ungodly approach.
Jesus Christ grew in popularity with time. He could do many things that his rivals would not attempt. His sermons were full of grace and salvation.
Jesus’ persistence of declaring himself as the Bread of Life wasn’t some icing on the cake for his critics, but petrol on the burning fire.
To make things worse for the enemies, Jesus performed many miracles to validate his ministry.
The Pharisees reactions to Jesus’ declaration of himself as the Bread of Life weren’t palatable!
They were very jealous of him, and they secretly vouch to do everything within their power to halt his ministry and silence him forever.
Perhaps someone declared among the Pharisees, “For how long are we going to allow this heresy? How on earth can we allow this illiterate to keep teaching people the scriptures? Let’s fabricate something to keep his mouth shut!”
Would the anti-gospel people be able to completely shut off the light of God? Very much impossible!
Jesus Insisted, I am the Bread of Life
Jesus had no time for his critics because he knew his mission was not to pay attention to those who would slow him down.
Jesus preached more gospel!
Whether the opponents would appreciate his ministry or not, Christ kept on preaching about God’s kingdom, and he set his eyes on the goal of saving humanity.
The scripture gave the account of how the Pharisees attempted to ridicule Jesus with the aim of imposing psychological attack to probably slow him down or silence him.
“The Jews then complained about Him, because He said, “I am the bread which came down from heaven.” And they said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” Jesus therefore answered and said to them, “Do not murmur among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.
It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world” (John 6:41-51 NKV).
Jesus – The Bread of Life Was Destined to Win!
Jesus Christ – The light of God – was born to shine. He would shine; he would reign, and his dominion would last eternally!
“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).
The enemies plotted against Jesus Christ to arrest and kill him. They thought their mission was accomplished at the point of his death, but direct opposite was the case.
Jesus resurrected! He rose from the grave at the third day that his body was laid to rest.
The true meaning of Jesus’ declaration “I am the Bread of Life” fully manifested at the time of his resurrection and ascension to heaven.
Christ dominated his competing rivals by resurrecting from the grave. At the same time, he earned victory for his followers.
Everyone who believes in Jesus Christ have access to his gift of eternal life.
Christ the Bread of life did it all for people who believe and faithfully serve him. He gave them eternal life.
Their portions will permanently remain with him in his kingdom.
Anyone who confesses Jesus Christ as his or her personal Lord and Savior will automatically receive the Bread of Life that satisfies every spiritual hunger.
Such person will also have an opportunity to call heaven his or her permanent home.
