God requires obedience from his people. He put people of Judah to task by asking them provocative questions. In a metaphorical statement, God challenged Judah inhabitants to consider what the consequences of their sinful actions are. God said,
“Now let me sing to my Well-beloved a song of my beloved regarding His vineyard: My Well-beloved has a vineyard on a very fruitful hill. He dug it up and cleared out its stones, and planted it with the choicest vine. He built a tower in its midst, and also made a winepress in it; so He expected it to bring forth good grapes, But it brought forth wild grapes. “And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, Judge, please, between Me and My vineyard. What more could have been done to my vineyard that I have not done in it? Why then, when I expected it to bring forth good grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes?” (Isaiah 5:1-4).
Lesson On The Consequences of Sin and Blessing of Obedience
Which one of the following two conditions should be considered appropriate for us: To obey God and receive God’s blessings, or to disobey God and receive his punishments?
The most efficient decision anyone can make in life is to obey God and enjoy his benefits.
A person who chooses to walk in God’s way will prosper; the fellow will see the fruits of his/her labor abide.
Meanwhile, a person who walks contrarily to God’s laws exposes him or herself to negative consequences. Sufferings that are attached to an act of disobedience to God’s laws are not quantifiable.
If a person does not walk with God, he/she will automatically become subject to Satan’s influences. Since nothing good comes from the devil, the reward of an association anyone has with him would be disastrous. Hence, people who value God’s relationship should make their best efforts to obey his commandments.
