Right Application of Gifts of the Holy Spirit

heaven

Holy Spirit is God’s force sent by Jesus Christ to benefit Christians. He is the third person of the Trinity, and he shares all attributes of God.

It is important to emphasize that the Holy Spirit is a person and must be acknowledged with the “He” pronoun. (Holy Spirit is a living being; he is a person!)

The Holy Spirit manifests himself in diverse ways, which are notable as Gifts of the Spirit.

The gifts are diverse as the Bible described,

“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gift of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kind of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills” (1 Corinthians 12:4-11).

megaphone-1019915_640The gifts of the Holy Spirit are designated by God to benefit the body of Christ – Which is the church.

It is however unfortunate that some Christians have a tendency to misuse their gifts of the Holy Spirit, and thereby hurt the church they supposed to benefit.

Christians must be careful not to misappropriate the gifts of the Holy Spirit they possess. We must not abuse the operations of the Holy Spirit so that we can be able to effectively glorify God.

Impacts of the Holy Spirit among Christians

Proper handling of gifts of the Holy Spirit will create a lasting positive impact on the Christian community and promote God’s kingdom.

The gifts of the Divine Spirit of God are expected to solidify the body of Christ and also enable everyone to properly grow in the love of God.

warningThe misuse of gifts of the Holy Spirit will create a negative impact on the church. Christians must exercise caution when operating with their gifts.

For example, the Holy Spirit can elevate a person into limelight through his manifestations, which may cause him to be tempted with pride.

A mature Christian will take extra caution in those times not to yield to the temptation of the enemy.

A person who possesses special gifts of God to operate beyond ordinary capacity must remain humble to glorify God at all times. Paul challenged the Corinthians,

So, my brothers, strive eagerly to prophesy and do not forbid speaking in tongues, but everything must be done properly and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:39-40 NABR).

No mature Christian would be expected to be proud because he has some special gifts of God. Instead, he would be expected to consciously operate to ensure God is glorified.

It is important to reiterate that a Christian who is baptized with the Holy Spirit with his demonstrative power must make a decisive effort to use the gifts (virtues) to benefit God’s kingdom.

Christians to Expect Baptism of the Holy Spirit

ChristianChristians must desire baptism of the Holy Spirit. We must prayerfully seek God’s face to receive his indwelling Spirit and his gift manifestations, which are needed for gospel expansion.

Jesus Christ declared,

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8 KJV).

Any Christian who wants to spiritually prosper and benefit the kingdom of God must earnestly seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The fellow must dedicate time to pray and fast to receive the indwelling presence of God – The Holy Spirit!

The benefits of the baptism of the Holy Spirit are immeasurable. Jesus Christ said to his disciples,

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26 KJV)

Meanwhile, beyond physical manifestations of the Holy Spirit, Christians also have a great advantage of bearing spiritual fruits.

The fruits are for personal spiritual growth and also benefit the church at the same time.

Paul explained the fruits of the Holy Spirit as stated,

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23 NIV)

Christians to Take Caution with Use of Gifts of Holy Spirit

top secretIt is a prestigious thing for any Christian to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and receive his gifts.

However, it is un-prestigious for such a fellow to misuse the gifts received.

God detests the misuse of his Divine Spirit by anyone. He will not lightly esteem an abuser of his Spirit but punish him/her.

The Bible declares,

And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:30 NLT).

Jesus also stated the Holy Spirit,

Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven” (Matthew 12:31 BSB).

God reserves dire consequences for people who abuse his Holy Spirit. It is advisable for a person who operates in gifts of the Holy Spirit to live and operate in humility. Such person must ensure to not arrogate God’s glory unto him or herself since the Creator will not share his glory with anyone. God declares,

I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images” (Isaiah 42:8 KJV).

In essence, every demonstration of the Holy Spirit (notable as the gift of the Holy Spirit) must not rest on human glorification. Glory must solely be directed to God.

No child of God should take personal pride of achievement in the operation of the Holy Spirit that dwells in him or her. God deserves all praises!

The bible declares,

So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty” (Zechariah4:6 NIV).
