King Jeroboam was a wicked king who championed idolatry in Israel. Jeroboam was not just an idolatry king, but he was a champion of idol worship! Some of his idol worship allowed human sacrifice, which God detested greatly. Jeroboam’s sin was so bad to the extent that bible attached his name with other successors who portrayed similar trait.
God punished King Jeroboam for his evil deed; however that was not all about his case, history also did not forgive him. Jeroboam’s name was echoed throughout the bible for subsequent sin of Israel. Bible mentioned his name several times after he was deceased. Some Jeroboam’s successors that were linked with his evil practices are listed below.
1. King Zechariah
“In the thirty-eighth year of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah the son of Jeroboam reigned over Israel in Samaria six months. And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his fathers had done; he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin” (2 Kings 15:8-9).
2. King Menahem
“In the thirty-ninth year of Azariah king of Judah, Menahem the son of Gadi became king over Israel, and reigned ten years in Samaria. And he did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart all his days from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin” (2 Kings 15:17-18).
3. King Pekahiah
“In the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekahiah the son of Menahem became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned two years. And he did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin” (2 Kings 15:23-24).
4. King Pekah
“In the fifty-second year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekah the son of Remaliah became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned twenty years. And he did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin” (2 Kings 15:27-28).
Leaders To Be Godly And Leave Good Legacy
Christian leaders must endeavor to leave good legacy for their successors. A good Christian must not be wicked. Believers must be careful not to abuse our positions. A leader of any capacity must honor God in his or her capacity – Whether he/she is a captain, group leader, theme leader, mentor, pastor, senator, governor, president, or any other. Each person must consciously lead other people with the fear of God!
Also, each member of a family must be a good example for others to follow. Husband must be a good example; wife must be god-fearing, and siblings must be good examples. Meanwhile, it is understood that humans are fallible; but God requires that we operate in humility and repent from our sins. That is, Christians must repent from our sins and make every necessary amendment whenever we realize our errors. God will increase his goodness in the life of anyone who exercises godly fear in his position and genuinely repents from his sins. Such person will be blessed on earth and also have an opportunity to receive God’s imperishable crown of glory on the last day!
Children of God must understand that it is important to possess teachable spirit and positively respond to God’s corrections over any misdeed. A child of God must not be wicked. The Creator will bless people who demonstrate positive attitude towards his instructions. Meanwhile, the heavenly Father frowns at stubborn children. He will punish a disobedient and wicked person who refuses to turn a new leaf. Also, the fact that history does not forgive bad people must be resonating in our hearts!
Pray To Abstain From Wickedness and Be Positive Influence
Dear God, please give me ability to demonstrate positive attitude as a leader of any capacity. Help me to allow your Holy Spirit to lead me so that I can serve to your satisfactions. Give me a teachable spirit so that I can operate in humility and repent whenever I fall into sin. Empower me to aspire to live in holiness everyday of my life so that I can qualify to receive your imperishable crown of glory in heaven. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
False teachers are out there. As it applies to all Christians, Apostle Paul warned Christians at Corinth to be careful of heresy (The teachings that lack bases in the word of God).
“But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or ifyou receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!” (2 Corinthians 11:3-4).
Caution Against False Teachers and Teachings
Every child of God must be careful of false teachers.
Be careful not to be deceived with popular teaching that are contradictory to the bible.
(False teachings are our there. They have become rampant in our time).
Each believer is required to evaluate any teaching that he (or she) receives.
We must use bible to evaluate our teachers and their teachings.
God challenged Judah inhabitants to stand up for righteousness and stop abusing the weak and the less privileged people. Judah would be blessed if they care for others, but they would suffer terrible consequence if they act otherwise.
Jeremiah prophesied, “
“Thus says the Lord: Execute judgment and righteousness, and deliver the plundered out of the hand of the oppressor. Do no wrong and do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place.
For if you indeed do this thing, then shall enter the gates of this house, riding on horses and in chariots, accompanied by servants and people, kings who sit on the throne of David. But if you will not hear these words, I swear by myself,” says the Lord, “that this house shall become a desolation’” (Jeremiah 22:3-5).
Lesson on Standing for Righteousness
Children of God are required to fairly treat others – with respect, and without prejudice. To demonstrate that we are truly God’s children, we must not violate the right of others.
We must not take advantage of other people, and we must abstain from selfish ambitions. However, our behavior (as God’s true children) must be to care for the less privileged people.
We must consider the needs of others. We must provide for orphans, widows, and other people in position of need. Jehovah will delight in us if we carefully observe these things.
Once he is satisfied, we should be expecting him to be bless us – he will lift us above our limitations. Jehovah will ensure that we do not suffer lack!
Pray to Stand for Righteousness
Dear God, please help me to care for others. I do not want to be a selfish individual who is only obsessed with his/her personal needs. Help me to have empathy for others, and help me to do my best in meeting their needs.
Please fill be with your divine Holy Spirit to do what is just; empower me with grace to demonstrate good heart towards others.
Let me be your true ambassador on earth, so that people can be happy and praise your holy name. After all these things, please bless me, and meet me in every area of my needs. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
Believers are challenged to understand the real motivation behind the salvation of their souls received through Jesus Christ. No one should take his or her salvation for granted, but deeply appreciate it.
The scripture stated,
“how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?” (Hebrews 2:3-4).
Lesson on Motive of Salvation
The process of obtaining salvation for humankind was never cheap for Jesus Christ.
He had to vacate heaven (with all its comforts) to come to earth; he had to suffer persecution from his enemies.
Ultimately, Christ had to die on the cross to obtain salvation for humankind.
Hence, no child of God should take his/her grace of salvation for granted! We are to humbly come to the feet of Jesus Christ and accept him as our Lord and Savior. Also, to appreciate Christ’s work of salvation, we must truthfully serve God with a devoted mind.
Prayer on Motive of Salvation
“I have decided to follow Jesus; I have decided to follow Jesus; I have decided to follow Jesus: No turning back; No turning back.”
I (mention your name), I give my life to Jesus Christ. I believe he is the Son of God; he has paid for my sins, and I receive my forgiveness of sin through him. Therefore, I declare him (Jesus Christ) to be the Lord of my life.
I give my complete life to him, and I will faithfully serve him with all my strength and might. I will follow and serve Jesus Christ throughout my life!
Please Lord, give me grace to serve you unto the end! For in the name of Jesus Christ alone I have prayed.
God spoke through Prophet Jeremiah that he would destroy an arrogant nation that exalted itself above his interest. God said,
“And Moab shall be destroyed as a people, because he exalted himself against the Lord” (Jeremiah 48:42).
Lesson on God’s Judgement on Sinners
All people are made by God, and everyone is accountable to him. Both Christians and non-Christian are accountable to God! The Creator is impartial and will exercise righteous judgement on all people. He will bless whoever satisfies his desires, but punish unrepentant sinners.
All people are therefore encouraged to serve God faithfully and maintain a consistent relationship with him. It is important that everyone knows that God cannot be adequately satisfied God without a confession of Jesus Christ as Lord. Jesus Christ is the true Son of God, and without him no one will see God (John 14:6).
Pray to Live in Righteousness
Dear God, I humble myself before you so that I can be saved! I repent from my sins, and I confess your Son Jesus Christ as my Lord and personal Savior. I submit my desires to you from today. I will obey your commandments, and faithfully serve you throughout my life.
Please count me worthy for your eternal kingdom. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
